TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

Television programming is a competitive market and series have to prove themselves to make it or break it. Sometimes it is the characters that viewers are drawn to, while other shows offer a storyline from which fans cannot turn away. Those dedicated to the weekly timeslot believe there are some shows canceled before their time was up and did not deserve to be removed from the airways. This list captures some more recent programs, others from the 1990s and one classic 1960s hit.

10. Gilligan’s Island

The classic sitcom, Gilligan’s Island, starred Bob Denver as Gilligan, and a comedic group of castaways attempting to survive on a deserted island. Running for only three seasons on CBS from 1964 to 1967, the show was based on the crew’s unending series of failed attempts to be saved and return to civilization. At the time, the competition was stiff for the show’s 7:30 p.m. Monday timeslot, and while the cast was on vacation, CBS canceled the series in favor of Gunsmoke.
