Oh, one hit wonders, how we love you! Bands that smash onto the scene, take over the airwaves for a few months and are forever played at parties and school dances, while we laugh awkwardly and try to mimic the dances we did back then. Sometimes we never hear from the band again, and sometimes their remaining efforts just never hit the same chord as that first song did. Let’s celebrate ten favorite one hit wonders.
10. The Knack, “My Sharona”
The debut single from The Knack, “My Sharona,” hit number one on the Billboard charts in 1979, and stayed there for six weeks. It earned number one on Billboard’s end of the year Top Pop Singles chart and was certified Gold, which means it sold over one million copies. In 1994, the song was rereleased on the soundtrack to Reality Bites and hit Billboard charts again, though this time it peaked at number 91.
