By the end of 2016, many people agreed it was a year of sorrow in the entertainment industry. The year culminated in the passing of many celebrities. Some of the deaths that year were unexpected and untimely, while others let nature and age take its course, but all seemed to have an impact on fans worldwide. We look back on the lives and careers of some of these incredible Hollywood stars and capture some poignant memories they left behind.
30. Garry Marshall
Born on November 13, 1934, Garry Marshall had an extensive career in the entertainment industry as an actor, producer, writer, director and voice artist. He wrote some of the popular comedy sitcoms of the 1970s and 1980s, including Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Mork & Mindy. He continued to produce and direct films, but made his debut in front of the camera as a child in the 1950s show, The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show. On the stage, he performed in Wrong Turn at Lungfish, The Roast, and Shelves and Happy Days: A New Musical. He had a stroke, which led to pneumonia. He died at the age of eighty-one on July 19, 2016, in a California hospital.
